New Delhi, Oct 1 (PTI) The BJP on Thursday targeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over alleged irregularities in the veterinary officers’ recruitment exam in Karnataka, alleging that he has maintained a studied silence on the “injustice” done to job aspirants in the state ruled by his party.

Addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters here, party spokesperson Sambit Patra also accused Gandhi of adopting a “double standards” on the student issues and alleged that the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) has become “Congress’ ATM”.

“You send your youth wing and allies to create disturbances in the states ruled by the BJP and when the students and doctors face injustice in the states ruled by your party, you remain silent. How long can this double standards continue,” Patra said, demanding a response from Gandhi.

Karnataka CID and the Enforcement Directorate are investigating alleged irregularities in the veterinary officers’ recruitment exam conducted by KPSC.

A case was registered in the matter few months ago after a group of veterinary doctors lodged a complaint with the Vidhana Soudha police, alleging large-scale irregularities in the KPSC recruitment process for 400 veterinary officer posts in the Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Department.

The ED on Wednesday alleged that former Karnataka PSC Controller of Exams and IAS officer Gyanendra Kumar Gangwar “facilitated” the leakage of the veterinary officers’ recruitment examination question paper to an alleged middleman a day before the test in exchange for illegal gratification.

The ED also said its probe revealed that Rs 30-40 lakh was taken from candidates of the exam for access to the leaked paper.

Gangwar was arrested by the central agency on September 18 while he was in the custody of the Karnataka CID investigating the same case. He is currently in ED custody.

Patra said investigations into the case have reportedly brought to light “huge financial transactions, blank cheques, promissory notes and a diamond necklace worth Rs 22 lakh”.

“Rahul Gandhi, who politicises issues concerning students in BJP-ruled states, should explain why he remains silent on the injustice faced by the students in Karnataka,” he said.

“He should tell who has the diamond necklace,” the BJP leader said, wondering, “Could the necklace worth Rs 22 lakh be at Janpath?”

“KPSC has become Congress paisa snatching commission. It has become Congress’ ATM,” he charged.

Patra also slammed the Congress over the Karnataka government reportedly filing a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the high court’s recent order for setting up an SIT to probe the case.

“Rahul Gandhi keeps talking about the Constitution, demanding setting up of SIT on one or other issue but when the court orders setting up of an SIT to probe a case in the state ruled by his party, it is challenged in the Supreme Court,” he said.

Congress leaders keep showing the Constitution but they are the ones who are indulging in “constitutional fraud”, Patra charged. PTI PK PK KVK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
