Kota (Rajasthan), Oct 15 (PTI) A six-month-pregnant woman was killed and her three-year-old daughter injured after a speeding pickup vehicle rammed into their motorcycle in Kota, police said on Thursday.

The incident occurred on the Northern Bypass under the Railway Colony police station limits on Wednesday evening, when Mona (28), a resident of Gamach village in Bundi district, was travelling with her husband Dayaram and their daughter to buy vegetables.

According to Circle Inspector Ramswaroop, the pickup hit the motorcycle from behind, causing Mona to fall onto the road and get dragged under the vehicle. She died on the spot, while her daughter sustained injuries.

The pickup driver fled the scene after the accident, the officer said.

Dayaram alleged that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Police rushed to the spot and took the victims to a hospital in Kota, where doctors declared Mona brought dead. Her injured daughter was given primary medical treatment and later sent home, the officer said.

The woman’s body was handed over to her family after a postmortem examination on Thursday morning.

Based on a complaint lodged by Dayaram, police registered a case against the pickup driver, who is yet to be traced. The vehicle has been seized, Ramswaroop said. PTI COR SMV SMV AMJ

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
