Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 3 (PTI) The Keralam government has sanctioned the setting up of ‘Keralam Desks’ in five global cities to attract foreign investments and strengthen engagement with the diaspora, Chief Minister V D Satheesan said on Saturday.

Satheesan, in a post on X, said the desks would be established in Dubai, London, New York, Singapore and Tokyo as part of the state government’s 100-Day Action Plan.

“Operating on a zero-cost model in partnership with recognised NRK organisations, these desks will shift our diaspora engagement from remittances to long-term investment, facilitated seamlessly through KSIDC’s Invest Keralam Cell,” he said.

According to a government order issued by the Industries Department on September 30, the initiative aims to shift the state’s diaspora engagement from a predominantly remittance-based outreach to an investment-oriented model by leveraging established Non-Resident Keralite (NRK) business and professional networks.

The Keralam Desks will function as the state’s outward-facing investment facilitation arm in the selected locations, the order said.

Their objectives include building structured relationships with NRK associations, Keralam-origin businesspersons and prospective investors, generating pre-qualified investment leads and referring them to the Invest Keralam Cell of the Keralam State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) for facilitation through its single-window mechanism.

The desks will also provide market intelligence on sectoral opportunities, investment trends and regulatory developments in the respective jurisdictions to support the state’s investment-promotion strategy.

The government said the initiative would entail no financial burden on the state. Each desk would be hosted and administratively supported by a recognised NRK organisation at the respective location on an honorary and voluntary basis.

The Invest Keralam Cell under KSIDC would provide the institutional framework, branding, coordination protocol and technical linkage, it said.

The government has accorded in-principle sanction for establishing the desks on a cooperative, no-cost model in partnership with suitable NRK organisations in the five cities.

KSIDC Managing Director has been directed to identify and formalise cooperation arrangements with suitable NRK organisations, finalise the scope, protocol and reporting structure of the desks and integrate their lead-referral function with the Invest Keralam Cell, the order added. PTI LGK ADB

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
