Srinagar, Oct 24 (PTI) Kashmir Police chief Sujit Kumar on Saturday reviewed security preparedness and various policing measures across the valley.

Kumar, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, chaired a meeting in hybrid mode, a police spokesman said, adding that the meeting was attended by all three range DIGs and district SSPs of Kashmir Zone.

During the meeting, the IGP Kashmir stressed the need for timely investigation and disposal of cases within the stipulated 60/90-day timelines under the relevant provisions of the new criminal laws (NCLs).

The IGP Kashmir directed officers to strengthen intelligence gathering and take effective action against overground workers (OGWs), hybrid terrorists and other elements inimical to peace and security.

Kumar stressed close monitoring of emerging security challenges and coordinated efforts to maintain peace and public order, the spokesman said.

The meeting also focussed on winter preparedness, with particular emphasis on heating arrangements and the availability of essential facilities for the personnel deployed at police stations and other establishments, the spokesman said.

He said the IGP Kashmir stressed that adequate arrangements must be ensured for personnel performing duties under harsh winter conditions.

Kumar directed officers to make police nakas more dynamic, effective and intelligence-driven while ensuring minimum inconvenience to the general public.

He also stressed the need for strengthened inter-agency coordination and increased synergy on the ground to enhance operational efficiency and address security concerns. PTI SSB MNK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
