Manipal (Karnataka), Sep 30 (PTI) An inpatient undergoing treatment at a private hospital here sustained severe injuries on Wednesday after falling from a fourth-floor window while allegedly attempting to escape the facility, police said.

The injured individual has been identified as Rajesh R Shetty, a resident of Thirthahalli, they said.

According to police sources, Shetty had recently been admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) following a prior suicide attempt involving poison consumption.

On Wednesday afternoon, Shetty reportedly attempted to flee the premises through a fourth-floor window frame. During the attempt, he lost his balance and fell to the ground below, incurring heavy injuries from the fall.

Emergency medical staff immediately rushed to his aid, and he was readmitted for urgent trauma care within the same medical facility, where he is currently undergoing critical treatment. Manipal police are investigating. PTI COR AMP ROH

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
