Jamshedpur, Oct 7 (PTI) Two miscreants, allegedly involved in a firing incident at a mall in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur, were injured in a police encounter in the early hours of Wednesday when they attempted to flee, officials said.

The duo was arrested on Tuesday from the Sonari police station area.

The incident took place around 3 am when they were taken to a spot on Marine Drive to recover arms allegedly kept hidden, SP (City) Lalit Meena said.

“Upon reaching the spot, one of the accused took out a gun from the bushes and fired three rounds at the police personnel in an attempt to flee,” Meena said.

The two suffered injuries in the leg after the officers fired in self-defence, the SP said.

The accused duo was later admitted to MGM Hospital.

The police also seized two firearms from the spot, Meena added.

On September 26, a group of assailants opened fire inside a restaurant at the mall on Marine Drive, injuring four persons, police had said.

Four accused were apprehended from Chhattisgarh on September 30 in connection with the incident, they said.

The shooting at the mall was likely due to personal enmity over railway contracts and a land dispute, SSP (East Singhbhum), Ehtesham Waquarib, had said.

The injured persons are undergoing treatment at Tata Main Hospital here. PTI BS RBT

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
