Srinagar, Jul 21 (PTI) Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said rescue and relief operations were underway at the highest level in the rain-battered districts of Jammu, asserting the Centre has assured all possible help to the affected people.
“Many lives have been lost due to heavy rains in Poonch and Rajouri which is extremely unfortunate. Rescue and relief operations are underway at the highest level. The administration, SDRF, NDRF, and police are all active on the ground,” the LG told reporters on the sidelines of a valedictory function of the 100-day ‘Nasha Mukt J-K’ campaign here.
At least 23 people have been killed and seven others are missing in rain-related incidents in Poonch, Rajouri and Doda districts since Sunday.
Sinha said immediate assistance is being provided by the administration to the affected families.
“Most bodies have been recovered, and efforts are on to search for those who are still missing,” he said.
The LG assured the affected families that the government and the administration stand with them with full sensitivity.
“The (Union) Home Minister also called and assured that all possible help from the Government of India will be provided. I believe that the administration officials on the ground are working with complete responsibility,” he added.
On the 100-day ‘Nasha Mukt’ J-K campaign, Sinha said the administration has created a rehabilitation plan for the persons affected by drug menace.
“During this 100-day drive, individuals affected by drug addiction were identified, and a permanent rehabilitation policy is being prepared. Based on this, the campaign will continue in the future as well,” he said. PTI SSB DV DV
