Chaibasa (Jharkhand), Aug 1 (PTI) A court in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district on Saturday sentenced a man to life imprisonment till death for the rape and murder of a five-year-old girl four years ago.
The court of Additional Session Judge-II pronounced the judgment, while also imposing a fine of Rs 50,000 on the man, identified as Ramlal Birua alias Ramlal Munda.
The incident took place in Sodasai village in Manjhari police station area on March, 2022.
The court also sentenced the convict to three years in jail under Section 201 of IPC and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000.
The victim’s mother had stated that her daughter had gone missing on March 19, 2022 and villagers told her that the girl was last seen with Ramlal Munda, who had reportedly lured her by promising to buy biscuits and committed the crime. The body was found near a transformer in the village on March 21.
He was arrested and sent to judicial custody. A case under sections of the IPC and POCSO Act was registered on March 21.
Police had filed a chargesheet after collecting scientific evidence against the convict. PTI BS ACD
