Ranchi, Oct 24 (PTI) Jharkhand is likely to receive rainfall on October 28 and 29 as a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is set to intensify into a cyclonic storm, an official said on Saturday.
Isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and winds gusting up to 50 kmph are expected at several places during the two days, he said.
“The low-pressure area over east-central and adjoining south-east Bay of Bengal became a well-marked low-pressure area and lay over east-central Bay of Bengal at 5.30 am on Saturday. It is most likely to persist over the same region and intensify into a depression on Saturday,” Ranchi Meteorological Centre Director Baburaj PP said.
The weather system is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify further into a deep depression on October 25, and a cyclonic storm over the Bay of Bengal by October 26 morning, he said.
The system is “likely to make landfall on the morning of October 28 somewhere between the north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts”, the IMD said.
“In Jharkhand, partly cloudy conditions are likely to prevail from October 27. During the day, south-eastern and central parts of the state are likely to receive rainfall. Subsequently, the influence of the system will become more widespread on October 28 and 29,” he said.
The adverse weather system’s impact is likely to persist till October 30.
“From November 1, it is likely to weaken and move towards the northern parts,” the director added.
Dry weather prevailed across the state in the past 24 hours till 8.30 am. Jagannathpur recorded the highest temperature at 33.6 degrees Celsius, while Latehar recorded the lowest at 12.3 degrees Celsius. PTI RPS RPS BDC
