Jammu, May 5 (PTI) The newly launched Vande Bharat Express service between Jammu and Srinagar has witnessed an enthusiastic response from travellers, with 16,349 passengers availing the service in the first four days, railway officials said on Tuesday.
Launched on May 2, the semi-high-speed train has recorded an average occupancy of around 82 per cent during this period, reflecting its growing popularity among commuters for both speed and premium onboard services.
“Overall, analysing the occupancy statistics from May 2 to 5, approximately 16,349 passengers enjoyed their journey, and the average occupancy rate stood at about 82 per cent,” officials said.
They said a steady surge in daily passenger volume has been observed on the route.
On May 4, the train recorded an occupancy of 82 per cent, with around 4,680 passengers travelling in two pairs of trains.
The occupancy further jumped to 96 per cent on May 5, when only a single pair of trains — Nos 26404 and 26403 — was operational due to the weekly schedule. Around 2,744 passengers travelled on each side that day.
The increasing footfall indicates that tourists and pilgrims are preferring the modern travel experience in Vande Bharat Express over the conventional train services, officials said.
They said the passengers also appreciated the train’s world-class amenities, including its smooth and jerk-free ride on the winding tracks, along with the quality of food served onboard.
Authorities from the Jammu division have been conducting regular inspections to ensure high service standards, they added.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal said the service is reflective of the ongoing modernisation of Indian Railways and has been well received by passengers.
“The surge in occupancy from 82 to 96 per cent within two days is a matter of immense pride. We are glad that passengers are satisfied and are considering this train a reliable travel option,” he said.
Singhal said passengers’ feedback is being closely monitored to further enhance the travel experience. “With the tourism season picking up, we expect the train to achieve near full occupancy in the coming days,” he said. PTI AB RUK RUK
