Anekal (Karnataka) Oct 8 (PTI) A Jaguar car caught fire at a petrol station near Attibele on the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border after the driver allegedly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake while reversing, police said on Thursday.

No casualties were reported, they said.

The incident occurred when Sanjay, a resident of Kudlu village, had gone to a petrol station near Attibele to fill up fuel on Wednesday night, police said.

According to police, when a station worker asked him to move the car slightly to park near the fuel pump, Sanjay allegedly put the vehicle in reverse but pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. The car hit the petrol pump, triggering a fire.

The fire from the car subsequently spread across the petrol station. A station worker was seriously injured after being hit by the reversing car, police officials said.

Sanjay’s female friend, who was travelling with him, immediately got out of the vehicle and escaped, police said.

Fire engines from both Karnataka and Tamil Nadu were pressed into service and managed to extinguish the blaze.

Attibele police have taken Sanjay into custody and are investigating the incident. PTI COR AMP KH

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
