Kolkata, Sep 19 (PTI) Jadavpur University has constituted a 24-member committee to oversee planning and utilisation of funds under the Centre’s PM-USHA scheme, a senior varsity official said on Saturday.
The committee, headed by acting Registrar Debjit Dutta as convener, will prepare plans on how and where the financial assistance under the scheme will be utilised, the official said.
The proposals will subsequently be placed before the university’s Executive Council.
PM-USHA (Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan) is the Centre’s revamped version of the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), under which financial assistance is provided to higher educational institutions.
The previous Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal had objected to the use of the prefix “PM” in centrally sponsored education schemes as the state had earlier not agreed to the scheme, resulting in universities being deprived of the associated financial assistance.
After the change of government in West Bengal, the BJP-led state administration agreed to PM-USHA, the senior official said.
The Higher Education Department has nominated members to the committee, while a representative was recently nominated by the state Higher Education Minister for attending the EC meeting, Vice Chancellor Chiranjib Bhattacharya said on Saturday.
He said an “Institute of Eminence Committee” has been formed following the state government’s budgetary announcement of Rs 250 crore for the university.
The recent approval of Rs 250 crore from the state government is expected to support infrastructure development and research activities at the institution, authorities said. PTI SUS RG
