New Delhi, Jul 17 (PTI) The Indian Youth Congress and the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) announced on Friday that they would ‘gherao’ Parliament on August 9 as part of the party’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj (Voice of Students)’ campaign to amplify the alleged corruption in education as well as the need for reform.
These two frontal organisations of the Congress reiterated their demands seeking the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, strict action against incidents of alleged paper leaks and the release of an annual examination calendar.
Indian Youth Congress (IYC) president Uday Bhanu Chib and NSUI in-charge Kanhaiya Kumar outlined the future roadmap of the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ campaign during a press conference here.
Chib said that the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ campaign began with a press conference, followed by engagement with students and youth through various programmes.
He informed that protests and demonstrations would be held in various cities on August 1, and the ‘gherao’ of Parliament would take place on August 9 under the slogan ‘Delhi Chalo (March to Delhi)’.
“A digital campaign against paper leaks will also be launched, allowing students to record their voices by creating two-minute videos,” he said.
According to him, 6.5 lakh people have registered for the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ campaign so far, and 50,000 have extended their support via missed calls.
Kumar said the Congress, the IYC and the NSUI have been consistently raising issues concerning students.
He said Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has been leading a mass movement for several years against alleged irregularities in education, employment, recruitment processes and examinations.
Kumar alleged that questions have been raised regarding almost every major examination during Pradhan’s tenure and a large number of posts remain vacant across various departments.
