Kozhikode (Keralam), Oct 24 (PTI) The IUML has expelled one of its members and removed him from its affiliated organisations amid a probe into the theft of 31 lakh Qatari riyals, worth nearly Rs 8 crore, from the KMCC office in Doha.

The IUML state committee announced the expulsion on Saturday through its mouthpiece, Chandrika Daily. Razak Kunnummel, also known as Rotana Razak, of Thurayoor panchayat, has been expelled from the party and its associated organisations, including the Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre.

The KMCC is a cultural and social welfare organisation associated with the Indian Union Muslim League, a key ally of the Congress-led UDF in Keralam.

Razak was an IUML council member in Qatar and an active member of the KMCC.

Koyilandy police registered a case on September 15, 2026, in connection with the theft of 31 lakh Qatari riyals from the KMCC office in Doha. The theft was reported on September 18, 2025, at the office in the Al Thumama area of Doha.

According to police, four people who allegedly travelled from Keralam to Qatar were involved in the theft.

The delay in filing a complaint over the incident had drawn criticism of the IUML and the KMCC. IUML leaders, however, maintained that Qatar KMCC vice-president P K Abdul Rahim approached the police on the instructions of the party leadership.

Recently, BJP local leader Parappil Balakrishnan, a native of Koyilandy, surrendered before the police in connection with the case. Before surrendering, he had levelled allegations against Razak.

The other accused named in the case are Shaji, Asainar, Rashi Payyoli, Salih alias Bava, Kakachi Kamaru and Nisar. PTI TBA SSK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
