Patna, Oct 3 (PTI) RJD national working president Tejashwi Yadav on Saturday virtually denied a rift within the INDIA bloc over the Legislative Council election seat-sharing, saying constituent parties have conventionally contested these polls separately.
For the elections to eight council seats to be held on October 23, the Congress and the RJD have unilaterally announced candidates for five and six seats, respectively, implying friendly fights within the INDIA bloc.
“Whether it is the graduates’ constituency elections, teachers’ constituency elections or elections for people’s representatives in local bodies, the Left, Congress and the RJD have always contested elections separately,” Yadav said.
He was talking to reporters after returning to Patna from Delhi where he attended a hearing at the Rouse Avenue Court regarding the alleged IRCTC hotel scam case.
The RJD leader exuded confidence that his party would perform well in the upcoming legislative council polls.
A day ago, the Congress also dismissed speculations of a rift within the opposition bloc.
The Congress’s Bihar president Rajesh Ram asserted that the party’s decision was taken in line with “sentiments of our workers and public perception that the Congress is emerging as the principal challenger to the BJP”.
Commenting on the ongoing protest against CEC Gyanesh Kumar, Yadav said his party has prepared an action plan in this regard.
“Opposition MPs will stage a protest march on October 6,” the former deputy chief minister said without elaborating.
He said the opposition alliance would ensure punishment for the “sins” committed by CEC Gyanesh Kumar and “those who put him in that position of power.”
About the court hearing in Delhi, the RJD leader said his family was routinely following court proceedings and charged the Central government with falsely implicating Lalu Prasad’s family.
“Had we been in the BJP, we would have been treated as Raja Harishchandra (a symbol of truth), but since we are fighting the BJP, the ED, CBI and the Income Tax Department are after us. That won’t make any difference,” he said.
Just like the Election Commission has been “exposed” before the people, the investigating agencies would too face public scrutiny, Yadav claimed. PTI SUK NN
