Panaji, Oct 3 (PTI) Goa Congress president Girish Chodankar on Saturday said the ruling BJP will be reduced to five seats in the upcoming assembly polls if all “serious opposition political parties” come together.

Chodankar also said the intention of the Aam Aadmi Party to defeat BJP sounds doubtful, considering the last few instances in states like Haryana.

“Opposition parties must be serious about defeating the BJP. If all the serious opposition parties come together then the BJP will reduced to only five seats in the 40-member assembly,” Chodankar told PTI during the ongoing ‘Goy Rakhon Yatra’ (Save Goa Campaign).

The Congress has already began the process of bringing together opposition parties, he said, adding that an alliance has been announced with the Revolutionary Goans Party.

Asked about the Vijai Sardesai-led Goa Forward Party, he said the party has tied up with Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP.

“They (GFP and AAP) have formed an alliance and have put up hoardings falsely targeting Congress over the defections. How can we have talks with Goa Forward Party till the hoardings are not pulled down or the video campaign targeting Congress on their social media handles is not deleted,” he questioned.

Chodankar also said Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are expected to visit Goa, though no date has been fixed. The ‘Goy Rakhon Yatra’ will end on October 18. PTI RPS BNM

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
