Identify cardiac risks by advanced imaging instead of waiting for symptoms: Experts

Gurugram, Oct 8 (PTI) Experts participating in a cardiac imaging conference here have stressed that one must identify heart-related risks early through advanced imaging techniques instead of waiting for symptoms such as chest pain or breathlessness to appear.

Experts, gathered at the ECHO ASIA/ECHO INDIA 2026 conference, said early changes in the heart can begin even before symptoms become visible, necessitating the need to identify the risks early and artificial intelligence can play a crucial role in this by analysing images and identifying certain abnormal findings.

“When it comes to heart disease, waiting for symptoms is not always the right approach. Advanced imaging can help us identify changes in the structure and functioning of the heart at an early stage,” said Dr Rakesh Gupta, Executive Organising President, Indian Academy of Echocardiography (IAE).

The IAE and the Asian Pacific Association of Echocardiography (AAE) have organised the conference under the theme “Shaping the New Era of Cardiac Imaging.” Several experts from India and the Asia-Pacific region are participating in the conference.

While Dr Hansa Gupta, Chairman, Scientific Committee, IAE, said echocardiography and strain imaging can help in understanding early changes in cardiac function, Dr S K Parashar, International Chairman, IAE, said AI can play a supporting role by analysing images and taking important measurements and identifying certain abnormal findings.

The conference, which will continue until October 11, is focused on advancing cardiac imaging, research and new technologies to support the early identification of cardiac risks and improve their management, according to a statement. PTI COR AMJ

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
