New Delhi: The husband of an alleged gang rape victim was shot Sunday at their rented accommodation in Northeast Delhi’s Dayalpur.

In her complaint to police, a copy of which is with ThePrint, the woman said the four men who allegedly assaulted her on Holi this year, at Ghaziabad’s Loni, had been pressuring and threatening her to withdraw the case, forcing her to move to Delhi.

Two unnamed men have been listed as accused in the FIR and booked for murder.

A Delhi Police officer, who didn’t wish to be named, said teams have been formed to investigate the case “and various angles are being looked into”.

“The family had shifted to a rented accommodation in Delhi about two and a half months ago. A case has been registered in this matter and investigation has been taken up,” the officer added.

According to the woman’s complaint, around 12.30 am, two men came to her house and called her husband outside. When he stepped out, the duo allegedly shot him.

The husband was declared dead at the hospital, the complaint adds.

The woman has said she knows one of the men.

“One of them was tall and well-built, he has a tattoo on his hand and goes by the name ‘tattoo’ in the locality (Ghaziabad)… He… lives in DLF, Ankur Vihar, Ghaziabad,” she said.

The woman claims she was raped by four men — Guddu, Meraj, Wasi and Tamjeet — in March, and she subsequently filed a complaint against them.

“Tamjeet is in police custody now and the other three continued to pressure me to withdraw the case. Due to their repeated threats, I shifted to Chand Bagh, Dayalpur,” the woman said in her complaint.

The rape case is lodged at the Loni police station in Ghaziabad.

A senior Ghaziabad police officer, who didn’t wish to be named, said, “the woman had named only one person in her complaint on the basis of which the FIR was lodged in the rape case”.

“He is in custody. Later on, she named three others while recording her statement in front of the magistrate. Investigations are on in the matter,” the officer added.

“We don’t know if the two incidents are related. Delhi Police haven’t approached us yet in the murder case,” the officer said, noting that the deceased man was “earlier booked in a drug peddling case in Ghaziabad”.
