Shimla, Oct 1 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Police was declared to have the quickest response time in the country on emergency calls made in September, officials said on Thursday.

As per the latest national ranking of states/UTs, Himachal Pradesh recorded an average Emergency Response Support System (ERSS-112) event response time of just 4 minutes and 4 seconds during the last 30 days, placing it at rank 1 in India, a statement issued here said.

In November 2025, HP Police was ranked 34th in the country but it climbed to first position in terms of average response time in January this year.

The achievement reflects the sustained efforts of HP Police, including ERSS-112 call takers, dispatchers, Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs), district police personnel and supervisory officers, the statement said.

Continuous monitoring, greater operational discipline, effective use of technology and close coordination between the state ERSS centre, districts and field units have contributed significantly to improving the speed and efficiency of emergency response, an official said.

The achievement is particularly significant as every minute saved in responding to an emergency can make a crucial difference in protecting life, safety and property, it said.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has congratulated the entire team of state police for maintaining the highest standards of responsiveness and public service and called upon all personnel to sustain the momentum and further improve the quality of service delivered to citizens through ERSS-112.

“Being No. 1 is an achievement; sustaining No. 1 through consistent performance is the greater responsibility. Well done, Team HP Police,” the CM was quoted as saying in the statement. PTI BPL SKY

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
