Himachal: Jal Shakti projects worth Rs 1,012 crore underway in Una

Stay updated with ThePrint:

Una (HP), Nov 5 (PTI) As many as 136 development projects with a total outlay of Rs 1,012 crore are underway under the Jal Shakti Department in Himachal’s Una district.

To assess the status of these initiatives, which encompass drinking water, irrigation, sewerage, and flood protection, Chief Engineer of the Jal Shakti Department Anju Sharma conducted a three-day visit to the district and inspected several project sites across various divisions and held review meetings with officials to evaluate the status of the ongoing work.

Of this, nearly Rs 600 crore has already been spent, while projects worth about Rs 400 crore are in various stages of progress, a statement issued here on Thursday said.

Chairing a review meeting, Sharma noted that Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, who also holds the portfolio of the Jal Shakti department, has placed special emphasis on ensuring that the department’s drinking water, irrigation, and other projects are completed within the stipulated timeframes, allowing the public to benefit from them without delay.

Una also happens to be Agnihotri’s home district.

Sharma instructed officials to maintain regular oversight regarding the quality and progress of construction work. She also directed them to prepare and submit proposals for the subsequent phases of these projects, ensuring they can be prioritised based on available approvals and funding, and completed in accordance with the established targets.

Sharma also inspected the ponds in Pubowal and Beetan and emphasised the need to further promote such initiatives, given their importance for water conservation and groundwater recharge.

She highlighted that conserving rainwater and facilitating its percolation into the ground helps maintain groundwater levels. PTI COR BPL
