Shimla, Jun 1 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta launched the Self-Enumeration Drive for the first phase of Census 2027 from the Lok Bhavan here on Monday, a statement said.
The statewide campaign will be conducted till June 15, enabling citizens to voluntarily fill in their Census details through the online self-enumeration portal.
The governor launched the campaign by completing his self-enumeration, the statement said.
Director, Census Operations, Himachal Pradesh, Deep Shikha Sharma, along with other senior officers of the department, briefed Gupta about the various features and procedures of the digital Census process.
After successfully completing the process, the governor said the Census is not merely an exercise for collecting demographic data, but serves as the foundation for future development planning and formulation of public welfare policies and programmes.
He appealed to all citizens of the state to actively participate in this important national exercise and complete their self-enumeration.
He urged citizens to carefully preserve the self-enumeration ID generated by the portal upon the completion of the process.
“During the subsequent phase from June 16 to July 15, enumerators will visit households across the state and citizens will have to provide the self-enumeration ID to facilitate the smooth completion of the Census exercise,” Gupta said.
He appealed to residents to furnish correct and authentic details during the self-enumeration process.
Himachal Pradesh, along with Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand, contains large snow-bound and geographically challenging regions. Therefore, the self-enumeration exercise has been given priority in these states to facilitate timely and efficient data collection, the governor said. PTI COR DIV DIV
