Shimla, July 20 (PTI) Senior Himachal CPI (M) leader Sanjay Chauhan on Monday launched a blistering attack on the NDA government for the ‘brutal’ lathi charge on Cockroach Janta Party protesters and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of “ruthlessly crushing democracy”.
Alleging that the central government was acting in a “fascist manner” under the directions of the RSS to silence dissent and destroy the democratic structure, Chauhan said the CPI(M) fully supports the protesters and called upon the youth across the country to launch a campaign to oust the Narendra Modi government.
Talking to the media here, he accused the Centre of resorting to repressive measures against the protesters, who were demanding reforms in the examination system, resignation of Union Minister of Education Minister Dharmender Pradhan and scrapping of the National Testing Agency for repeated paper leaks.
He claimed that the youths coming to join the protest at Jantar-Mantar in New Delhi were stopped at various places, including railway stations.
Dubbing the National Education Policy, 2020, as ruinous, Chauhan said that the CPI (M) strongly opposes the policy.
Protesters were detained from several areas, including Mandi House, Patel Chowk, Janpath, Jantar Mantar and Parliament Street on Monday as security forces tried to prevent demonstrators from assembling and marching towards Parliament.
Security forces also used tear gas near Shastri Bhawan after protesters attempted to push through barricades. PTI BPL KSI KSI
