Shimla, Aug 24 (PTI) The opposition BJP and ruling Congress members on Monday locked horns on the issue of discussion on unemployment, as the BJP demanded discussion under Rule 67 (Adjournment Motion), which the latter resisted.
Soon after the question hour, BJP members Randhir Sharma, Hansraj, Sudhir Sharma, and Rakesh Jamwal demanded discussion on the promise of one lakh government jobs every year to unemployed youth; however, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan maintained that discussion under Rule 67 is held only under rare circumstances.
Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania also said that notices under Rule 63 and Rule 130 had been received on the same issue and ruled that the discussion would proceed under Rule 130 (motion to discuss a matter of public importance).
Randhir Sharma said it was a very serious matter, adding that the government played a cruel joke with unemployed youth during the past four years and was running away from discussion.
This issue might be a drama for the Congress, but it is a very important issue for us, he added.
Hitting back at the BJP, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri asked why the BJP wasted 72 hours on the National Song and National Anthem, if the matter was of such importance.
HP Assembly Leader of the opposition Jai Ram Thakur said that the Congress had promised five lakh jobs in five years and the youth wants to know the statistics in this regard.
Chauhan said that the government has fulfilled promises like the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme, while other guarantees are being implemented, and there are still 15 months to go (for the assembly election).
He also questioned how many government jobs the Central government has given, which had promised 2 crore jobs every year, and added that where is the black money that was to be brought back and the Rs 15 lakh that was to be deposited in every citizen’s account. PTI BPL RUK AMJ AMJ
