Shimla, Jul 7 (PTI) The Himachal Pradesh BJP on Tuesday said it will launch a statewide movement against the Congress government’s “anti-people” policies and “unfulfilled” guarantees.

Addressing a press conference here, BJP state unit chief Rajiv Bindal said the party will also bring out a comprehensive “chargesheet” on the Congress government’s performance so far.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the BJP core group here.

During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held on the prevailing political situation in Himachal Pradesh, the recently concluded panchayati raj and urban local body elections and the party’s future organisational and mass outreach strategy, Bindal said.

The core group expressed its gratitude to the people for their overwhelming support for the BJP. The election results have sent a clear message that the people are disappointed with the Congress government and have rejected its “anti-people” and “anti-Himachal” policies, he claimed.

The BJP leader accused the Congress of making repeated attempts to delay and influence the election process.

He said the Congress performed poorly even in Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s home district of Hamirpur while BJP-backed candidates received decisive support.

Bindal said the BJP core group has resolved to launch a statewide mass movement against the Congress government’s “anti-people” policies, “unfulfilled” guarantees and administrative “failures”.

“As part of this campaign, the party will prepare a comprehensive chargesheet highlighting the government’s performance over the past 3.5 years and present it before the people of the state,” he said.

“The Congress government has failed to fulfil the promises it made before the last assembly elections to women, youths, employees, farmers and orchardists,” he charged.

Ration for the poor has become more expensive, development has come to a standstill, law and order has deteriorated, corruption has increased and various mafias have flourished under the Congress government. The BJP will take these issues to every village and town, Bindal said.

He alleged that the Congress government’s much-publicised guarantees have remained largely unfulfilled, including promises of providing financial assistance to women, free electricity and procurement of milk and cow dung.

Bindal also hit out at the Congress over the Ram temple donation “theft”, saying the party has a long history of opposing its construction at the birthplace of Lord Ram in Ayodhya.

Congress leaders’ recent visits to the Ram temple reflect political compulsion rather than genuine faith, he said.

“Lord Ram is a symbol of faith and devotion for the people of India, whereas the Congress has historically treated the issue as one of political convenience,” he said.

The Congress cannot erase its history of opposing the Ram Janmabhoomi movement and the action taken against Ram devotees, he said. PTI BPL DIV DIV
