Shimla, Oct 30 (PTI) The Himachal Pradesh BJP launched a statewide public awareness campaign, ‘save democracy, remove anarchy,’ with a padyatra in Dharamshala here on Friday.

Addressing the gathering, Kangra MP Rajeev Bhardwaj questioned the Congress party’s approach and emphasised the importance of respecting democratic institutions and electoral outcomes. He asked the state Congress government to provide a clear account of progress on implementing the ten guarantees it announced during the Assembly elections.

Referring to commitments of Rs 1,500 per month for women, employment opportunities for youth, and support for farmers and horticulturists, he alleged that the Congress government was focusing on political rhetoric instead of providing satisfactory answers to issues affecting the people of Himachal Pradesh.

He said democracy was not merely about winning elections and forming governments but also about being accountable to the people. He raised concerns about the state’s financial condition, rising debt, pending employee demands, the pace of development projects and challenges facing rural communities.

Bhardwaj said whether elections are conducted through ballot papers or Electronic Voting Machines, every political party has a responsibility to respect the mandate of voters. He maintained that any genuine complaint regarding electoral procedures should be presented before the appropriate constitutional and legal authorities with supporting evidence.

BJP State vice-president and Sulah MLA Vipin Singh Parmar said the campaign would focus on democratic values, the functioning of constitutional institutions and the accountability of the Congress government.

Parmar said the BJP would engage with the public and seek factual responses from the state government regarding its policies, decisions and commitments, he added. PTI BPL ASD
