Shimla, Aug 4 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh BJP on Tuesday announced a massive rally in Shimla on August 5 to protest against alleged registration of false cases against party leaders.
The protest rally, to be led by Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur and state BJP president Rajeev Bindal, will see participation of all BJP MLAs and senior party leaders, it said.
Addressing mediapersons after the BJP Legislature Party meeting here, MLA Randhir Sharma said they extensively discussed the prevailing political situation in Himachal Pradesh, the functioning of the Congress government, and the party’s strategy for the upcoming Monsoon Session of the Assembly set to begin on August 21.
“The Legislature Party strongly condemned the Congress government for repeatedly registering false cases against BJP MLAs, former legislators, Zila Parishad members, Panchayat representatives, elected representatives of Urban Local Bodies and other public representatives,” Sharma said.
Accusing the state government of misusing police, administration and various government agencies to target political opponents, he said it was an attack on democratic values and an attempt to silence the Opposition through vendetta politics.
Cases have been registered in Himachal Pradesh against several BJP leaders, including sitting MLAs Sudhir Sharma and Ashish Sharma and former MLA Hoshiyar Singh. The three were among the nine MLAs — six Congress legislators and three Independents — who had voted in favour of the BJP candidate in the 2024 Rajya Sabha elections and later joined the saffron party.
Sharma said the protest rally would not be confined to Shimla but would be expanded across the state to expose the Congress government’s “politics of revenge”.
He further stated that during the Monsoon Session, the BJP would strongly raise several issues concerning the people of Himachal Pradesh.
Pointing out that many families affected by the 2025 natural disaster are yet to be rehabilitated and a large part of the damaged infrastructure has not been reconstructed, he said the BJP will expose the government’s failure to provide timely relief and rehabilitation.
Sharma alleged that law and order has completely deteriorated in the state. Incidents of broad daylight shootings, axe attacks, murders and rapes have risen, and drug traffickers are flourishing under government patronage as youth are being pushed towards addiction, he said.
Claiming that corruption has spread from the Chief Minister’s Office to the grassroots level, including revenue offices, Sharma said the BJP will raise documented cases of corruption in various departments during the upcoming Assembly Session.
The party will also highlight pending dues to government employees, delayed pensions and retirement benefits; the Congress government’s failure to fulfil its promise to provide one lakh government jobs annually; and its failure to honour other electoral guarantees.
He alleged that the state is being run not by the Cabinet but by a “coterie of favourites,” while public welfare is being ignored and unnecessary expenditure is being encouraged.
Sharma also alleged that BJP leaders and MLAs are being placed under constant surveillance, their phones are being tapped, and the police and administration are being used to “gather information” about party meetings.
Such actions are undemocratic, he said, adding that the BJP strongly condemns this style of politics and will continue its struggle to safeguard democratic rights. PTI BPL RUK RUK
