Panchkula, Oct 3 (PTI) The Haryana Police’s Special Task Force arrested a wanted criminal, who was carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh, from Hisar, police said on Saturday.

The accused was wanted in connection with the murder of a businessman in Abohar in Punjab in 2025.

The victim, Sanjay Verma, who was the co-owner of the ‘New Wear Well Gents Tailor’ showroom, was gunned down in broad daylight in Abohar. A case was registered on July 7, 2025 in Punjab’s Fazilka.

The Punjab Police had announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information leading to his arrest.

Acting on specific intelligence, a team of Haryana STF apprehended the accused near the bypass flyover on Rajgarh Road in Hisar, police said.

The accused, whose name has not been disclosed, is a resident of Rajiv Nagar, Punjab, they said.

The STF team recovered an illegal .32 bore pistol and three live cartridges from his possession, according to police.

The accused, along with his accomplices, allegedly murdered Verma outside the showroom.

Further questioning of the accused and investigation into the case are underway, police said.

They are gathering information regarding his other criminal activities, possible involvement in additional cases and his associates to ascertain the extent of his criminal network and his role in other offences, police said.

DGP Ajay Singhal said Haryana Police is committed to taking effective action against organised crime, absconding criminals and accused persons wanted in serious criminal cases.

He said the force is continuously undertaking effective measures to apprehend wanted and absconding criminals. PTI CHS

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
