Rewari, Sep 19 (PTI) Haryana Congress president Rao Narender Singh on Saturday said the state government must take concrete and effective measures to address farmers’ issues related to crop prices, rising input costs, remunerative returns, irrigation and other agricultural concerns.
The government is duty-bound to listen to farmers and ensure timely and effective solutions to their concerns, he said.
On the government’s procurement plan for paddy and bajra, Singh said farmers have begun bringing their produce to the mandis, but a lack of clarity on procurement arrangements is causing unnecessary hardship.
He urged the administration to ensure adequate gunny bags, procurement centres, lifting arrangements and timely payments at all mandis. He demanded that crops must be procured at Minimum Support Price without delay.
Farmers should not be forced to make repeated visits to mandis to sell their produce, Singh said, emphasising that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure a smooth, transparent and timely procurement process.
Speaking at the Rewari Block Congress Committee convention, the state Congress chief expressed apprehensions over the law and order situation, saying that rising incidents of crime have become a greater cause of concern for ordinary citizens.
Congress workers will continue to take these issues to the people, he said, adding that the government must ensure an effective, accountable and responsive law and order mechanism. Haryana Congress affairs in-charge Sanjay Dutt was also present at the convention.
Both leaders called upon the workers to strengthen the organisation down to the booth level.
Maintaining that the party’s strength lies in its grassroots workers, Dutt called upon the Congress workers to remain active at the booth level, maintain continuous contact with the people, and understand and raise issues affecting their respective areas.
He said students across Haryana are raising concerns over education, employment, fees, scholarships and adequate educational facilities. The Congress will take forward the ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ campaign to highlight these concerns and ensure that the voice of students is heard more forcefully. PTI CHS RUK RUK
