Surat (Gujarat), Oct 3 (PTI) Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Saturday held a special public outreach programme at the Surat Circuit House where he heard representations from a large number of local residents.

The programme was organised with the aim of making the administration more accountable, bringing the government and administrative machinery closer to the people and ensuring prompt resolution of grievances, a government release said.

Sanghavi heard grievances and directed senior officials to take prompt action.

During his visit to Surat, Sanghavi also met 60-year-old Alkaben Mali, a flower seller who got back her lifetime savings with the help of the Surat Rural Police.

The police had solved a theft case where gold jewellery worth Rs 14.28 lakh was stolen from Mali’s house in Kim village of Olpad taluka in Surat district, the release said.

The thief and the goldsmith who melted down the stolen jewellery were arrested from Maharashtra, and Rs 14.28 lakh in cash, equivalent to the value of the stolen gold jewellery, was recovered and returned to Mali, the release said.

Sanghavi also inaugurated a Seva Setu programme at Althan Community Hall under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan, jointly organised by the district administration and the Surat Municipal Corporation.

The Revenue and Civil Supplies Department provided services including issuance of income, caste and non-creamy layer certificates, widow assistance and ration card-related services at the programme, the release said.

The Health Department provided services such as issuance of Ayushman Bharat cards free of cost, while applications for new ration cards, addition or deletion of names and e-KYC were processed and resolved at the venue itself, it added. PTI KVM KRK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
