New Delhi: The Home Ministry has served a notice to Congress President Rahul Gandhi, asking him to clarify within a fortnight his “factual position” on a complaint questioning his citizenship status.

In a letter, the Home Ministry said it has received a representation from BJP MP Subramanian Swamy in which it has been brought out that a company named Backops Limited was registered in the United Kingdom in 2003 with Rahul as one of its directors.

The Home Ministry said Swamy’s letter also mentioned that in the British company’s annual returns filed on October 10, 2005 and October 31, 2006, Rahul’s date of birth has been given as June 19, 1970 and had declared his nationality as British.

“Further, in the dissolution application dated February 17, 2009 of the above referred company, your nationality has been mentioned as British. You are requested to intimate the factual position in the matter to this Ministry within a fortnight of the receipt of this communication,” the Home Ministry notice issued Monday said.

  1. Samey should be subjected to narco test.. Since 30years he wants to be in lime light.. Fool….

  2. Subramanian Swamy has a habit of making startling statements. He should take proactive initiative to prove their veracity if he makes those statements with conviction. Why is he writing to the ministry about this one, why doesn’t he file a case himself if he has evidence that can stand the scrutiny in a court of law? He has made a habit of shooting loose cannons which create fun for him, excitement or discomfort for others. Let this one return to him like a boomerang. The Congress party should ask him a few legal questions for this slander – – if indeed it is just that. He must realize that EVEN THOUGH HE’S A BJP MAN, people expect a respectable behavior from a man of his age and educational qualifications.

  3. Same trick played on president Obama.
these copy american election tactics are well known to the public.
Its a shame that all the dirty tricks used in American elections are being used in India.
    a. it shows how stupid these guys are and 2. shows how dishonest one is prepared to be.

    • Let the truth come out. If you acquire citizenship of other country, than India by naturalization you cease to be Indian national even if you are born in India as per Indian laws. There are millions of Indians have acquired other countries citizenship, also called NRI even after loosing Indian citizenship, but allowed to have unlimited stay and visit in India. Such persons can’t contest election or vote in any Indian election.

      • Foreign citizens of Indian origins are no longer NRIs. They are either classified as Overseas Citizen of India OR People of India Origin. Both these categories enjoy same economic rights as most NRIs but are barred from a number of important activities which include no voting rights, no right to contest for a political post, and perhaps no right to buy agricultural land. I won’t be surprised that Rahul Gandhi holds foreign citizenship. Otherwise there should be no hesitation in producing the right documents.
