NHRC issues notices to UP chief secretary and state DGP, asking for a detailed report within four weeks.
New Delhi: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Tuesday observed that the violence in Bulandshahr was “indicative of yet another incident of violent protest and rampaging by the unruly mob exposing lawlessness and failure of the administration to tackle the sensitive issues and situations”.
A mob turned violent in Bulandshahr on Monday following allegations of cow slaughter, and the violence led to the killing of two people, including police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh. The inspector had taken over as SHO of Syana police station in Bulandshahr in September.
In a damning indictment of the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh, the NHRC further observed: “The contents of the media reports suggest that even the police officers do not appear to be safe and can be easily eliminated at free will of the uncontrolled lawless elements. Right to Life of the deceased persons in the instant incident has been grossly violated, which is a matter of concern for the Commission.”

Underlining that the safety of the public property and lives of its citizens was the “prime duty of the state”, the Commission said it expected “effective and prompt action from the state authorities in such situations so that a strong message” is given to the violators of the law.
Notices issued
In its order, the NHRC issued notices to the UP chief secretary and the state DGP, asking them to send a detailed report in the matter within four weeks, including action taken against the miscreants and relief and rehabilitation provided to the families of the deceased persons.
The incident of violence by mobs allegedly led by Bajrang Dal activists, left inspector Singh and another person dead.
Four persons have been arrested for their involvement in the case.
The sister of the deceased officer has alleged a deep-rooted conspiracy behind his death. Singh was the first investigating officer in the Dadri lynching case of 2015, in which Mohammad Akhlaq was killed by a mob allegedly for cow slaughter and beef consumption.
