Panaji, Aug 4 (PTI) Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday inaugurated forensic examination facilities, including polygraph and voice analysis testing, at the state-run laboratory in South Goa, and said the infrastructure would help expedite criminal investigations.
Sawant, who also holds the Home portfolio, noted that samples previously had to be sent to laboratories in Bengaluru or Gujarat, and now the upgraded facility at the Verna laboratory includes ballistic and fingerprint analysis equipment to enable comprehensive in-state examinations.
The chief minister also inaugurated “Nyay Shruti e-Peshi”, a video-conferencing facility for the forensic officers to depose before various courts.
The courts are encouraging virtual appearances, and this step will help in the disposal of justice, he said.
Sawant said his government has been working to strengthen the criminal justice system, and the improvement at the forensic science laboratory is a step in that direction. PTI RPS ARU
