Gangtok, Sep 28 (PTI) The Gangtok district administration has stepped up coordination to ensure timely follow-up of grievances, requests and suggestions received from people through the Sikkim government’s “Connect to CM” initiative, officials said on Monday.

A coordination meeting was held at the Mini Conference Hall of the District Administrative Centre (DAC), Gangtok, under the direction of Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, bringing together constituency-level representatives and officials to review the mechanism for addressing issues raised by citizens.

The meeting was initiated by Tshering Wangchuk Lepcha, Additional Political Secretary to the Chief Minister for Gangtok district, who said the initiative was aimed at establishing a direct and continuous channel between people and the Chief Minister’s Office.

“Connect to CM is not merely a platform for receiving calls, but a mechanism intended to create a continuous and meaningful connection between the people and the government,” Lepcha said.

He stressed that every genuine concern received through the platform should be treated seriously and that effective coordination between constituency representatives and the concerned authorities was essential to ensure appropriate action.

The initiative allows people across the eight constituencies under Gangtok district to communicate their concerns, grievances, requests and suggestions through dedicated contact numbers 8001681188 and 9332781188.

During the meeting, issues received through the platform were reviewed, with emphasis on proper documentation, forwarding of cases to the concerned departments and timely follow-up.

Chief Minister’s Office Resource Officer Surjay Pradhan briefed the participants on the nature of issues received through the initiative and discussed the mechanism for their coordination, forwarding and follow-up with the authorities concerned.

Lepcha said the grassroots feedback mechanism needed to be strengthened so that issues emerging from different constituencies could be systematically brought to the notice of the appropriate authorities.

“The effectiveness of the initiative depends on timely communication, coordination and accountability at every level,” he said, emphasising the need for constituency representatives and officials to work together to ensure that citizens’ concerns receive due attention.

The meeting also discussed the need to strengthen communication between the public, elected representatives, their offices and the Chief Minister’s Office, officials said.

It was attended by Gangtok CLC president Sanjeev Gurung, Syari CLC president Phurba Pakhrin, Burtuk CLC president Palmu Sherpa, Arithang CLC president Gyamtso Tamang, Khamdong-Singtam CLC president Sherap Dorjee Bhutia and Tadong CLC president Bimal Thatal.

OSDs to MLAs — Sushil Pradhan (Gangtok), Subarna Pradhan (Syari), Rohit Rai (Tadong), Shambu Pradhan (Arithang) and Sharmila Pradhan (Khamdong-Singtam) — also participated in the meeting.

The discussions concluded with a commitment to further strengthen the “Connect to CM” mechanism and make it more accessible and responsive, while ensuring that public concerns are effectively communicated to and followed up by the authorities concerned. PTI COR RG

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
