Ahmedabad, Sep 16 (PTI) The Gujarat State Election Commission on Wednesday announced elections to the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation and the Okha and Thara municipalities, with polling scheduled for October 11.

Polling will be held from 7 am to 6 pm. Counting of votes will take place on October 13.

The notification for the elections will be issued on September 21. The last date for filing nomination papers is September 26, while scrutiny of nominations will be carried out on September 28. Candidates can withdraw their nominations till September 29.

If required, repolling will be held on October 12, the commission said.

The model code of conduct came into force with the announcement of the elections.

There are 44 municipal seats across 11 wards in Gandhinagar. The BJP had won 41 of the 44 seats in the last elections held in October 2021, while Congress had won two and the AAP one.

The commission said the elections to the three local bodies would be conducted through electronic voting machines (EVMs). PTI PJT PD KRK

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
