From ‘Breaking Bad’ to ‘Prison Break’, Stalin slams TVK govt over jailbreak in Theni sub-jail

Chennai, Oct 27 (PTI) DMK president M K Stalin on Tuesday alluded to popular American series — ‘Breaking Bad’ and ‘Prison Break’ — to launch a scathing attack on the TVK-led government over the law and order situation, following consecutive jailbreaks in Puzhal and Theni prisons.

Reacting to 17 undertrials escaping from Theni sub-jail, he described the regime as “good for nothing.”

“Following ‘Breaking Bad’, ‘Prison Break’ has now begun in Tamil Nadu,” he said in a post on ‘X’.

Superhit American series ‘Breaking Bad’ showcases the transformation of a high school teacher into a methamphetamine producer. ‘Prison Break’ is about an engineer who helps break his brother out of prison when he is wrongfully convicted of a crime.

“I thought that only criminals who are out on bail are not being monitored. This regime is intent on allowing prisoners inside the prison to escape,” Stalin slammed.

“Before we could even recover from the shock of two inmates escaping from the Puzhal Central Prison, 17 prisoners have now escaped from the Theni district jail”, he said, adding, “Experts note that this is the first time since 1995 that so many prisoners have escaped at once.”

Stalin said that such lapses were unacceptable in 2026, an era equipped with advanced security measures and surveillance technology.

“The criminals outside are committing crimes freely. The prisoners inside are also boldly escaping. Overall, this TVK government is a good-for-nothing government that is not helpful to anyone. They are not going to protect the people. Tamil Nadu has reached a point where the people themselves have to protect them,” the former CM said on ‘X’. PTI SNR KH

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
