Jammu, Sep 8 (PTI) Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Tuesday secured the conviction of four persons involved in narcotics offences in two separate NDPS cases, with the sentences ranging from two to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
In the first case, registered under various sections of the NDPS Act at Bhaderwah in 2018, the Sessions Court convicted three accused while acquitting one.
Shafquat Hussain and Tariq Hussain were each sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment, while Narinder Kumar was sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment, a police spokesman said.
He said the court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on each convict, with failure to pay the fine attracting an additional three months of imprisonment.
In the second case, registered in 2021 under the NDPS Act at Gandoh, the Sessions Court, Bhaderwah, convicted Abdul Qayoom, who was arrested with 1.10 kg of Charas. The court sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
In the event of non-payment of the fine, he shall undergo an additional one year of imprisonment, the spokesman said. PTI TAS MNK MNK
