Siwan/Gopalganj (Bihar), Oct 4 (PTI) At least five children, including three girls, have drowned in Bihar’s Siwan and Gopalganj districts, police said on Sunday.
Aditya Kumar and Sagar Kumar, both aged 13, drowned in the Daha river in Gopalganj district on Saturday while bathing during Jitiya, a regional festival during which mothers pray for the long life and prosperity of their children, SHO of Mirganj police station Rajeev Ranjan Singh said.
In another incident, Anshu Kumari (14), Anisha Kumari (16) and Anjali Kumari (16) drowned in a pond in Rampur village of Siwan district on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred when one of the girls was gasping for breath while bathing in the pond, and the other two attempted to rescue her, a police official said.
Their families have refused to allow a post-mortem, the officer said, while clarifying that the deaths did not occur during Jitiya celebrations. PTI SUK NSD
