Bengaluru, May 25 (PTI) Excise Department officials have seized illegal liquor worth approximately Rs 66 lakh in a major operation and arrested a person in connection with this, officials said on Monday.
The operation was carried following a tip off on May 22, when officials received credible information that liquor was being illegally transported in a goods train arriving in Bengaluru from Delhi, they said.
Acting immediately, Excise Department officials led by Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner Bharatesh, along with Railway Protection Force personnel, conducted a raid in front of the AVG Logistics Limited parcel godown at Yeshwanthpur Railway Station here, officials said.
“During the operation, officials seized 1,118 bottles containing 1,042 litres of suspected counterfeit foreign liquor, including various premium brands of single malt whisky and vodka, packed in 74 carton boxes,” a statement from the Excise department said.
The estimated value of the seized liquor is Rs 66 lakh, it said.
One person has been arrested in connection with the case and remanded to judicial custody, officials said.
Excise Minister R B Timmapur directed officials to keep strict vigil against those illegally transporting liquor from other states and foreign countries.
He appreciated the officers and staff for successfully carrying out the major operation and seizing thousands of litres of suspected foreign and out-of-state liquor being transported illegally. PTI AMP ROH
