Gonda (UP), Oct 3 (PTI) BJP’s former Kaiserganj MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Saturday congratulated Congress leader Aradhana Misra on her appointment as the party’s Uttar Pradesh unit chief and wished her a successful tenure.
The Congress on Friday appointed Aradhana Misra, also known as Mona Misra, as the president of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee and named MP Imran Masood as the working president, effecting a major organisational reshuffle ahead of the Assembly polls next year.
Misra, daughter of Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tewari, replaced Ajay Rai, who had headed the state Congress since August 2023. The party also appointed Chaudhary Virendra Singh as the new leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Uttar Pradesh, while Devinder Nishad and Alok Prasad were named senior vice-presidents of the UPCC.
Speaking to reporters at his Vishnuharapur residence, Singh said giving or withdrawing organisational responsibility was part of the internal process of a political organisation.
He said Misra’s appointment should not be viewed as a reflection of Rai’s poor performance, noting that Rai had served as the state Congress president for three to four years, and that the change was part of the organisational process.
Describing Misra as a “polite woman”, Singh wished her well and said he hoped she would work effectively and strengthen the Congress in Uttar Pradesh.
Singh also congratulated wrestler Sujeet Kalkal for winning a gold medal in the men’s 65-kilogram freestyle category at the Asian Games. Kalkal defeated Tajikistan’s Abdulmajid Kudiev in the final on Friday.
Asked about the India-Pakistan contest at the Asian Games, Singh said every Indian would want India to win, whether the contest was in hockey, cricket or wrestling. PTI COR CDN RUK
