Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 27 (PTI) Congress leaders on Monday targeted the LDF government, alleging unannounced power cuts in Kerala amid a severe electricity shortage.
The attack comes after the LDF had campaigned during the Assembly election that it had completely ended power cuts in the state.
KPCC president Sunny Joseph said that while the electricity minister claims there is no load-shedding in Kerala, power outages are occurring daily.
“It is better for the government to openly say that there is a shortage due to summer, and regulations have been imposed. They should end this hiding game. The electricity crisis is a reality,” he said.
Joseph said that an advertisement issued by the LDF government during the election campaign about improved electricity supply has been exposed as false.
“People can now see the real situation and that those claims were fake,” he claimed.
Joseph said that the government was merely debating the terminology used for the outages.
“They call it restriction. It is the same as a power cut. If the minister calls it an electricity restriction, people experience it the same way,” he said.
Congress leader K Muraleedharan also said that the claims made by the LDF regarding electricity supply had turned out to be false.
“It seems that as they are going to exit, they are taking away the electricity connections also,” he said.
Senior Congress leader V M Sudheeran said that people’s lives had been affected by the harsh summer and that the state government had failed to respond appropriately to the situation.
“Unfortunately, as elections are over, the government is not acting as they believe they have nothing to do now. It should not be allowed, and the government should take the situation seriously,” he said.
He said the situation had worsened to the point where people were struggling due to frequent, unannounced power cuts.
“The government should explore all possibilities, procure electricity and resolve the matter urgently. The government should stop the practice of unannounced power cuts,” he said. PTI TBA SSK
