New Delhi, Sep 19 (PTI) A 64-year-old man was found dead in a fire-swept house in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar on Saturday, with police suspecting suicide after the emergence of a death note he left online.
The deceased, Vijay, had been living alone as a tenant in the Old Shahpura area for around five years, the police said.
An incident of fire was reported around 3.26 am, following which four fire tenders were rushed to the spot. After the blaze was brought under control, a severely burnt male body was found inside the house, the police said.
The body was identified by Prakash Chauhan, a resident of Subhash Nagar, according to police.
During the preliminary inquiry, police learnt that Vijay shared a message on an online messaging platform and also uploaded a video shortly before the incident.
According to the police, in the video, Vijay said he was taking his own life, and nobody should be blamed for his decision.
He also addressed his daughter, saying he loved her and would miss her. He said he was setting himself on fire so that his family would not have to face the stress of his cremation. He expressed a wish that his ashes be dispersed in the Yamuna by his daughter.
According to the police, Vijay had been divorced for around six years, was unemployed, and was afflicted by loneliness and depression. His mobile phone has not yet been recovered.
Vijay was originally a resident of East Azad Nagar and used to create and upload vlogs on social media, the police said.
The circumstances surrounding the death are being investigated. His body has been preserved at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for post-mortem. PTI SSJ VN VN
