New Delhi: The long wait for Class 12 students came to an end Friday as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the results — 99.37 per cent students have passed, much higher than last year’s 88.78 per cent, and 2019’s 83.40 per cent.

In the absence of physical exams, cancelled due to the second Covid-19 wave, results for this year were declared on the basis of a special 30:30:40 formula — i.e., 30 per cent marks from Class 10, 30 per cent from Class 11 and 40 per cent from Class 12, which included internals assessments, unit tests and term exams that schools conducted.

This is why the board also decided to not draw up a merit list or a list of names of toppers.

Results of 60,443 students, who registered under private and patrachar, will be declared after their exams are held on 15 and 16 August.

2021 results trends

According to the board, 13,04,561 candidates appeared for the exam this year and 12,96,318 passed. The overall pass percentage is 99.37 per cent, with girls outperforming boys by 0.54 per cent.

The number of students who scored more than 95 per cent marks this year is the highest in the last three years. More than 70,000 students scored 95 per cent and above as compared to 38,686 students in 2020 and about 17,693 students in 2019.

Of the total candidates who passed the exam this year, more than 1.5 lakh students scored more than 90 per cent, similar to 2020. However, in 2019, this number was lower, at about 94,000 students.

The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and Kendriya Vidyalayas saw the best performances, with 99.94 and 100 per cent results respectively.

Combined mark sheet and certificate

The board noted that given the circumstance of this year’s exams, no merit lists would be drawn up.

“As a special case, the board will neither declare subject wise merit list of students and not issue merit certificates to students,” the board said.

Further, the board said it will issue a combined mark sheet-cum-certificate this year instead of its usual practice of issuing separate documents.
