New Delhi, Aug 24 (PTI) A person on the Metro track, overcrowding, loitering and even a change of clothes will be among the situations that Delhi Metro’s upgraded CCTV network will be able to detect as the corporation moves to replace its ageing analogue system with an AI-enabled IP-based network at 76 locations.
The proposed upgrade covers Red Line 1, which runs from Rithala to Shaheed Sthal, and Blue Line 3, from Noida to Dwarka Sector 21, as well as Line 4, from Vaishali to Yamuna Bank, according to a document.
It includes busy stations such as Kashmere Gate, Tis Hazari, Rajouri Garden, Karol Bagh, Mandi House, Barakhamba Road, Anand Vihar, Vaishali and Noida City Centre, besides depots, the Operations Control Centre and the Backup Control Centre.
The new cameras will be connected to DMRC’s existing central CCTV network for live viewing and recording. The document said the upgraded system will then use video analytics to identify situations that may require attention.
“It will detect overcrowding, excessive queues, loitering and camera tampering, while also learning routine activity to flag unusual movements or behaviour,” it mentioned.
For track safety, the cameras will also be equipped to raise intrusion alerts when a person is detected on the track or crosses a line when a train is not present. The document specified that the proposed system should provide this feature with “over 90 per cent accuracy”.
The system will also make it easier to look back at recorded footage when an incident needs to be investigated. It will allow operators to search for a person using details such as gender, clothing colour and age group, or by uploading a photograph, it added.
Once a person is identified, the proposed tool will be able to follow their movement across different cameras and show the route and timeline in one place. The corporation said “this should work even if the person’s clothing changes during the specified period.” At the central monitoring end, the system will provide a dashboard showing the status of cameras, recording servers, decoders and central servers. It will also display important CCTV events, alarms and alerts, while being integrated with the existing video management system, it stated.
According to DMRC, the upgrade will also ensure complete station coverage through the new IP cameras along with existing IP cameras. The system will be integrated with video walls at Metro Bhawan, Vinod Nagar Depot and IT Park, Shastri Park, so feeds can be monitored centrally.
The existing network has 2,531 analogue cameras. Kashmere Gate has 32, while Barakhamba Road has 60 and Mandi House 37– other stations include Karol Bagh with 41 and Anand Vihar with 50 cameras, it read.
