Chennai: A local worker of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) was arrested on the charge of sexually abusing a six-year-old girl following which Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin asserted that “stringent action” would be taken against those involved in crime against women.
In the Tamil Nadu assembly, Stalin announced Wednesday that the accused, Y. Pakirisamy, was removed from the party after the grave charge surfaced against the DMK ward member from Virudhachalam.
Stalin, the DMK chief, said that a UKG student studying at a private primary school in Virudhachalam, Cuddalore on 11 April, after returning from school had complained about stomach pain.
Medical examination at a hospital found that the child was sexually assaulted. She has been admitted to a government hospital for treatment.
The all-women police station in Virudhachalam, which received a complaint from the child’s mother, arrested the school correspondent (a post in private schools), Pakirisamy, for allegedly assaulting the UKG student.
Sources in the police told ThePrint that Pakirisamy was booked under the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and that investigation was underway.
Pakirisamy has been removed from the party, Stalin informed the House.
“As soon as we came to know that Pakirisamy is a DMK ward member at Virudhachalam, his party primary membership was cancelled. He was immediately removed from the party,” the DMK chief said. “No matter who indulges in crime against women and children, stringent action will be taken against them.”
