Gorakhpur (UP), Sep 16 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday hit out at previous Congress and Samajwadi Party governments, and attributed the transformation of Gorakhpur to his government’s efforts.
“Encephalitis is gone, mafia is gone, mosquitoes are gone,” CM Adityanath said while addressing people after an event.
He alleged that Gorakhpur had earlier been plagued by filth, crime and fear, and attributed what he described as the city’s problems to the “dirty mindset” of Congress and Samajwadi Party governments.
“Earlier, there was filth, crime and people did not venture out due to fear,” he said.
Adityanath said his government, after coming to power in 2017, worked to provide a secure environment in the state. “Today UP is curfew-free, riot-free. There is rule of law in Uttar Pradesh,” he said, claiming that criminals were either in jail or had left the state.
The chief minister highlighted infrastructure projects in Gorakhpur, including four-lane roads, railway overbridges, a flyover and the redevelopment of Ramgarh Tal. He also referred to the reopening of the fertiliser factory and the establishment of educational and medical institutions.
He said Gorakhpur now has AIIMS and other major institutions, and Sainik School at Fertiliser Colony is providing local children an opportunity to pursue military careers.
Referring to encephalitis, Adityanath said that hundreds of children died from the disease in the past and alleged that previous governments had “failed” to adequately address the problem.
He said that his government worked to eliminate the disease from Gorakhpur and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
“Earlier, there was filth and crime, and people were afraid to go there. In reality, this filth and this disease were not confined to Gorakhpur; they were the result of the ‘dirty mindset’ of Samajwadi Party and Congress governments, which had turned Gorakhpur into centres of criminal activity.” The chief minister also highlighted welfare schemes, saying poor families were receiving benefits such as free ration, housing, toilets and LPG connections. He said pension benefits were being provided to elderly people, destitute women and persons with disabilities.
On employment, Adityanath said his government would provide appointment letters to one lakh youths over the next six months. He also said recruitment advertisements for thousands of teaching posts had been issued.
Adityanath claimed that more than 500 industries had been established in Gorakhpur, providing employment to around 50,000 youths, and said the development of the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority created employment opportunities for the youth from neighbouring districts.
He also urged people not to allow themselves to be divided on the basis of caste, region or language, saying such divisions could lead to “curfew, riots, anarchy and hooliganism”. PTI CDN MNK MNK
