New Delhi: The Delhi Police has identified two potential suspects behind the explosion outside the Embassy of Israel Tuesday evening. No one has been detained yet.

“Based on scanning of the CCTV footage and questioning of the people in and around the area, we have found out a blast had taken place yesterday in the area. Forensic samples and exhibits have been lifted from the spot,” a source said.

“We are questioning people on the basis of the CCTV footage,” another source said.

After the explosion Tuesday, teams from the Delhi Police’s Special Cell, Fire Services, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the bomb squad had rushed to the area and found a one-page typed letter in English from outside the embassy.

The letter was “abusive” and addressed to the “Israel Embassy ambassador”, police sources said. It was wrapped in a flag, and was from a group called Sir Allah Resistance.

“The letter abuses Israelis and mentions Zionists. The organisation’s name is mentioned in the letter,” the second source said.

Meanwhile, the capital’s police are on high alert, having stepped up security outside the Israel embassy and in areas with a Jewish population.

The police’s public relations officer, DCP (Welfare) Kumar Gyanesh said senior police personnel were alerted about a “loud sound” at around 5.53 pm Tuesday from the Prithviraj Road end of the embassy.

He said men from the bomb disposal and dog squads along with those from the crime cell reached the spot first, followed by forensics. “The area was cordoned off and subjected to a thorough search,” he said.

“Experts have examined the spot, lifted exhibits that may have evidentiary relevance and those are being sent for forensic examination. Further investigation is on,” the DCP added.

The Israeli National Security Council has issued a travel advisory for its citizens in India, suspecting that the explosion was “a possible terror attack”.
