New Delhi, Aug 24 (PTI) The 15-year-old boy who purportedly fell into an open drain in southeast Delhi’s Jasola village while trying to retrieve a kite remains missing even nearly 60 hours after the incident.
Mithun, a Class 8 student, went missing around 11 am Saturday, with his family and authorities suspecting he fell into an drain near his house while trying to retrieve a kite.
A multi-agency search involving the Delhi Fire Service, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), rescue teams and divers was launched after the incident. The search was called off late Saturday and resumed Sunday morning.
The search operation continued on Monday, with the boy’s body not recovered till evening, a senior officer said.
On the other hand, a video purportedly showing Mithun’s father searching for his son in the drain with a stick in his hand has gone viral on social media. The video shows the distraught father entering the drain himself as the rescue operation failed to locate the boy.
Following the incident, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) suspended a junior engineer of South East (Central) Zone for alleged dereliction of duty. The MCD said disciplinary proceedings are being initiated against the official.
