New Delhi, May 15 (PTI) The Delhi forest department will undertake a Miyawaki plantation drive involving 40,000 saplings and 20,000 shrubs in south Delhi’s Bhatti area, according to an official document.
The project, to be carried out under the South Forest Division for a period of one year, aims at creation and maintenance of plantations using the Miyawaki method, the document said.
The Miyawaki technique, pioneered by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, focuses on recreating native forest ecosystems by planting a mix of indigenous tree species densely and closely together, thereby accelerating forest growth up to 10 times, and creating plantations that are 30 times denser than traditional methods.
The department has invited online tenders from reputed and experienced bidders for execution and maintenance of the plantation work, according to the tender notice issued by the office of deputy conservator of forests, South Forest Division. PTI SGV SGV ARB ARB
