New Delhi, Aug 1 (PTI) A 26-year-old man accused of cheating a Delhi resident by posing as a packers and movers operator and withholding his household goods demanding more money has been arrested, with the entire consignment recovered from Gurugram, police said on Saturday.
The accused, Ajay Kumar Singh, a resident of Vishnu Garden in Gurugram, was also found to be wanted in another cheating case registered at East Delhi’s Shakarpur Police Station, police in a statement said.
According to the police statement, Kumar Vikash Anand, a resident of Laxmi Nagar, lodged a complaint alleging that he had hired Space Logistics Packers & Movers to transport his household belongings from Delhi to Bihar.
The company collected part of the consignment on July 1 and the remaining goods on July 8. However, instead of delivering the articles, the operator allegedly demanded an additional Rs 20,000. The complainant paid Rs 500 first and later transferred Rs 19,500, but the goods were neither delivered nor was the money returned, read the statement.
Based on the complaint, an e-FIR was registered at Laxmi Nagar Police Station and an investigation was launched.
A police team analysed electronic evidence and placed the mobile number used by the accused under technical surveillance. After conducting raids and gathering intelligence, the team traced and apprehended Singh from Gurugram, it read.
During interrogation, Singh disclosed the location where the complainant’s household belongings had been concealed. Acting on the information, police recovered the entire consignment from Gurugram.
The recovered articles included 15 carton boxes containing a refrigerator, washing machine, LCD television, kitchen utensils and other household goods. PTI BM VN VN VN
