New Delhi, May 25 (PTI) A Delhi court on Monday convicted Congress leader Alka Lamba in a case related to an assault on police personnel during a protest at the Jantar Mantar in 2024.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwani Panwar convicted Lamba and fixed June 5 to hear the arguments on Lamba’s sentencing.

A detailed order is awaited.

The prosecution had accused Lamba, the president of the All India Mahila Congress, of obstructing police and blocking a public road while holding a protest in support of women’s reservation at the Jantar Mantar on July 29, 2024.

Last December, a magisterial court ordered framing charges against Lamba for offences of assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of duty, obstruction of a public official, disobedience to an order duly promulgated by a public servant, and danger or obstruction in a public way.

Lamba’s revision plea against the magistrate’s order was dismissed on February 6. PTI MNR ARI
